Room 3 and 4 School Camp 2018
Camp 2018
On Tuesday morning we arrived at school to get ready for camp. We got sorted out into our vans and then got farewelled from the rest of the school. We set off to Whangaruru for 3 nights and 4 days. When we got there we had a safety briefing and got settled into our tents and activity groups. In my tent, I had 2 of my friends which was great. For the activities, there was Kayaking, Mud run, Motorbike riding, Horse riding, Waterslide, and Raft building. Out of those activities, my 3 most favorites were Motorbike riding the Mud run and Horse riding. They were all great. When we were motorbike riding I saw about 20 crashes and one of them was from one of my friends Connor. He still has the big bruise on his leg. When I did raft building I fell in a bush of gorse. I spent 30 minutes to get 4 out, and there is still about 20 left. This years camp was the best camp ever, Hopefully, I will be able to go back one day.

Is plastic pollution really that bad?
For the past week we have written and presented our speeches to the class and this is mine about plastic pollution?
Dying wildlife, Polluted water, Environment going down all because of plastic. Hi, my name is Cohen and today I am going to be talking to you about why plastic pollution is a massive problem. Now first of all what is plastic pollution? Plastic pollution is the accumulation of plastic products in the environment that adversely affects wildlife, wildlife habitat, and humans. It can also affect land, waterways and the ocean.
Now how can we prevent plastic from polluting this world? To prevent plastic pollution we do a range of things from reducing the amount of single-use plastic to participating in beach clean ups. But the most important thing is to spread the word. Each year a European uses up to 100 tons of plastic that is 100 cars put together but in plastic waste. In 50 years there is going to be more plastic in the ocean than fish. Another devastating fact is in 500 years there is going to be more microplastic then sand grains.
Can you imagine that walking along the beach not being able to look at the beautiful view because you are watching every step you take because you don't want to stand on a bit of plastic and you will start bleeding from your foot? That will be sore. Also, can you imagine swimming in the water not seeing any fish at all only plastic? Plastic affects human health. Toxic chemicals leach out of plastic and are found in blood and tissue of all of us. Exposure to them is linked to cancers, Birth defects, impaired immunity and endocrine disruption. Soon there will be no more fish in the water. Is this how you want your future to be.
Plastic pollution is one of the worst things that can happen to this environment. Now is the time to stop. There are 6 types of plastic and these are all of them. (PET) ...(HDPE) ...(PVC) (LDPE) ...(PP) ...(PS) … And that is only 6 imagine how much there will be in the future. Probably hundreds and hundreds. So If I was you I would start getting ready because the world is falling apart slowly. When you are 30 or 40 it will not be like it is right now it will be a disaster. The world is going to be a disaster.
In my opinion, I still want to go swimming, snorkeling, and surfing. But I probably will not be able to because of plastic everywhere. In my perfect future, there will be no plastic what so ever it will be amazing. Every place I've been I always see a bit of plastic which is disgusting.
So what do you want it to be? It is up to you to stop all of this. A cleaner future is a better future.

The Room
In term 2, Week 2 we had to do some flash fiction so I decided to do someone stuck in a dark room. It tells you about a flashback and what he is thinking at the time. We had to use 3 prompts and these were the ones we chose as a class. Music, Chains, Rose.
The RoomScreaming for help, hopelessly I pray to god to free me from this claustrophobic room. Sitting chained to the wall starving away. 3 men walk in and beat me. I start to doze in and out of consciousness. I flashback to the day I gave my wife that red rose. Giving her the rose was one of the best days of my life until tragedy struck. She fell into my arms with unbearable force. I tried to talk to her, but she was not responding. I felt her pulse but there was none.
I went to the hospital every day of the week for the past 3 weeks. Until the doctors said I can stop going to see her. I asked the doctor what he meant and he said ¨she's gone¨. My legs felt like they were going to give way. I suddenly dropped to the ground, all voices sounded blurred as I was still trying to process what had just happened.
I walk home with my head hanging low. My friend Josh asked what happened, but I was too sad and heartbroken to tell him. I lay in my bed sobbing away just thinking of what I was going to do with my life.
I wake up looking around suspiciously. I try to stand up but I had no strength at all. Hopelessly I sit and beg to god to save me and to bring back my wife.
A man walks in and puts a music box on the ground. He starts to play irritating music. I yell at him to turn it off, but all he did was laughed. Why did God have to gift me with this unbearable condition? I always wished to not have misophonia (when you hate loud and annoying sounds). For the past 5 hours, I had to listen to those sounds. I was going mad. By the time I had reached 5 hours and 30 minutes I had enough. I ripped the zip of my jacket and tried to undo the lock hoping it would work. Out of nowhere, the chains slipped right off. I ran to the door and I burst out of the room. I felt pain in my back. I dropped to the ground. Then I saw a vision I had never seen In a long time.
It was my beautiful wife.

If you saw anything I did wrong please tell me so I can work on it next time. Why did you think he fell on the ground with pain in his back?

Persuading people to reduce the amount of plastic
In class, we have been learning about how to reduce plastic waste. We have looked at all the ways to reduce plastic and what we can do to help stop plastic from getting into the ocean, so we can save wildlife. I have created an infographic to show how to stop using plastic and what to use instead.
